Hillrom's comprehensive product and service offerings are used by health care providers across the health care continuum and around the world in hospitals, extended care facilities and home care settings to enhance the safety and quality of patient care.DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:Works within a cross-functional team, applying knowledge of human performance and human factors techniques to inform and guide development of new Hill-Rom products, and ensure that those products are safe and easy to use. Utilize theories, principles and data associated with human factors/usability engineering across product lines including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing product development activities for projects to ensure superior usability.Provides technical contribution within an area of expertise as a member of a multidisciplinary team of engineers in the Research and Development division. Leads requirement, analysis, detailed design and verification activities for a section of a complete product. Collaborates with other team members on the overall design of the final product, under the guidance of the project leader.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Other duties may be assigned:* Completes activities with robust performance through a plan or program* Applies technical competencies in somewhat difficult situations* Identifies technical problems and provides innovative and creative solutions* Shares technical knowledge with others in the team* Generates alternatives and takes reasonable risks while solving technical problems* Generates detailed, high quality technical documentation to capture and communicate designs* Seeks knowledge of the business, market, industry and competitive environment* Completes assigned tasks on time with minimal supervision* Uses existing tools and best practices to report and track product and process metrics* Informs others proactively about developments or issues that affect their work, and their ability to meet commitments* Uses collaborative communication style to negotiate win-win outcomes* Debate constructively and accepts ideas from others* Tends to be seen as original and value-added in brainstorming sessions* Generates alternative solutions to problems or processes* Provide Human Factors expertise across product range including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing product development activities for projects to ensure superior usability.* Collaborate in activities to develop the context of use and user needs/requirements including ethnographic research, use case/task analysis, and development of user profiles.* Work with the Industrial Designers to assist in the translation of user needs and requirements into user interface design solution concepts.* Use appropriate Human Factors techniques to work with end users to determine end user behavior, preferences, and usage models and help to integrate these into design concepts.* Participate in the development of physical mock-ups and interactive prototypes of design concepts.* Develop and direct formative usability studies during concept development and summative usability studies for human factors validation* Write clear test plans, set up test environments, manage recruitment of study participants, schedule research sites, moderate usability sessions, analyze test results, identify design improvement opportunities, and author summary reports that adhere to industry standards* Perform analytical use risk analysis to predict and/or assess use error risk potential and identify design mitigations* This role does not have supervisory responsibilityQualificatio
