Job Description

Supervise a medium to large group of employees involved in the production, cleaning, delivery and chemistry control of multiple casting alloys. Work is generally of a technical nature and requires the ability to make decisions within the limits of general standards and practices. Some direct guidance received from supervisor.

  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment

  • Knowledge of different melting operations, (reverberatory, sweat hearth, stack melting furnaces, filtering and degassing processes), with the ability to maintain and troubleshoot.

  • Utilize least cost recipe process to manage numerous raw material streams for the most efficient, cost effective process to produce aluminum alloys

  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements

  • Implements divisional and corporate policies

  • Implements safety and good housekeeping standards

  • Frequent contact with others outside the work group

  • Keeps management informed of developments as they occur

  • Maintains corporate and unit management control systems

  • Maintains department records

  • Analyzes casting alloys and determines necessary elemental additives to maintain chemistry control.

  • Directs and monitors the cleaning and handling practices of molten aluminum alloys to assure a quality product is delivered and maintained for casting processes.


  • Respond to work environment to meet production schedules

  • Continually look for waste & eliminates it (indirect material, scrap, tools, safety equipment, office supplies, spare parts & manpower)

  • Ability to manage people

  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a participative environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to listen to and support Team Members.


  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes

  • Experience/knowledge of manufacturing processes

  • Experiences/knowledge of melting processes and practices.

  • Experience/Knowledge of aluminum melting and holding furnaces with the ability to monitor and maintain refractory linings.

Education and Training

  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a management/supervisor/leadership role

  • Associates Degree, 2-year Technical/Mechanical Certification/Diploma, Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required.
