Brief Description

The Mechanic will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment, physical structures, vehicles and pipe, HVAC and electrical systems.

Detailed Description

Duties of the Mechanic include the following - other duties may be assigned. * Visually inspects, tests, operates and maintains equipment such as compressors, generators, air conditioners, boilers, autoclaves, etc. Performs scheduled maintenance activities. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery. * Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment and uses test instruments to detect malfunctions; monitor and document conditions and troubleshoot problems. Discusses equipment operation variations with area personnel or other maintenance dept. personnel to diagnose problem or repair machine. * Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts. With proper certification, charges and reclaims refrigerant gases from cooling systems. * Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as motors, lighting and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of equipment and monitoring systems. * Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, filters and related equipment. * Maintains water treatment and filter systems and samples water for testing * Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment. Assists with construction of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities. * Installs and uses computerized Energy Management System to monitor and control HVAC systems and other equipment throughout the site and at remote facilities. Uses computer on site and at home to monitor site operations, respond to alarms and troubleshoot HVAC problems. * Provides 24 hour and weekend "on call" coverage for monitoring of HVAC systems and emergency repairs required by the site. Contacts Maintenance supervisor or other maintenance personnel for technical support when needed. Provides coverage for snow removal operations. * Sets up and operates machine tools and power hand tools such as grinders, drills, saws, etc. * Maintains documentation on equipment and maintenance activity. * Responds to emergencies within 20 minutes.

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or general education (GED) and completion of one year program from college or technical school and at least two years of work experience or related training.
