CNO Financial Group Principal Solution Architect in Carmel, Indiana
Serves as a recognized principal subject matter expert of enterprise architecture solutions across the CNO enterprise. The Principal Solution Architect is a technology thought leader in the application architecture domain. The role will lead design on the largest and most complex mission critical solutions across enterprise technology domains as required (i.e. application, data, infrastructure). Solutions will range across a wide and diverse set of applications, technologies and technology domains. The role is expected to lead other architects across varying architecture domains. Leads projects with the very high resource requirements and of the highest risk, and/or complexity (i.e. scope is typically between $5M and $20M). Operates with broad limits of authority on the most technical and complex assignments. This role is expected to have an influential seat at the table with regards to driving future state vision and strategy for enterprise architecture solutions across the CNO organization.
Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Serves as a primary subject matter expert and thought leader in Solution Architecture for the CNO enterprise. Shapes technology strategy in architect’s problem domain. Creates rationalization strategies and solutions to support those strategies. Has responsiblility for mid to long term future state technology planning (i.e. 3-5 years) within solution delivery. Provide technical leadership for multi-million-dollar projects. Serves as technical lead for other Solution Architects; provides oversight and leadership as needed. Leads and oversees technology acquisition review and technical selection. Provides technical project oversight; reviews technical design from development teams; coordinates across technical areas. Partners with business and business delivery groups to understand business requirements. Drives adherence to CNO architecture standards. Interact with other IT disciplines, analysts, developers, testers, project manager to ensure successful delivery of projects. Effectively communicates technology direction, decisions and trade off’s. Provide accurate high-level estimates and ranges with unknown’s and data gaps. Create and present technical studies, recommendations and business cases. Determines technology rationalize paths and evaluate new technology suitability.

Expert knowledge of IT Architecture solutioning practices and principles. Subject matter expert in application development and development methodologies. Proven ability to solve complex technical problems through methodical thinking, planning and overcoming obstacles. Strong understanding of corporate and IT strategy. Strong interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork and facilitation, with the ability to influence senior leaders across the organization. Will have a seat at the table with regards to setting the strategic objectives for IT Solution Delivery. Solid written and verbal communication skills. Most often interacts with other IT subfunctions and influences a range of internal audiences across the organization, frequently at senior levels. Regularly interacts with multiple VPs and SVPs and provides input on delicate internal issues that have an important impact on the business. Strong planning and organizational skills; excellent time and resource management skills. Drives a high level of customer trust and confidence. Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts/theories for a variety of stakeholders. Strong ability to understand the long‐term ("big picture") and short‐term perspectives of situations. Understands and analyzes enterprise wide business drives and determines corresponding impact. Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field is required. Master’s degree preferred. Typically has a minimum of twelve to fifteen years of related experience. Has experience interacting with and influencing executive audiences; experience with executive/senior executive interaction and presentations. Has experience developing architectures across a wide range of technologies. Demonstrated depth in at least one architecture domain (i.e. application architecture), and broad exposure across several domains (i.e. data, application/solution architecture, security, infrastructure) is required. Strong experience participating in and preferably providing technical leadership on large, mission critical projects and systems. Has experience leading other architects at a project or direct report level. Has experience as technical thought leader and influencer. Has experience in managed services environment. Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
