Summary

DON Pathways Internship Program The selectee for this position will serve as a Student Trainee for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.

Responsibilities

The Pathways Program is work experience that provides an opportunity for students to pursue work that is relevant and beneficial to their academic studies. Assignments are designed to assist employees in developing a basic understanding of specialized practices and procedures and a familiarity with work operations. You will provide assistance to higher level personnel by performing routine and repetitive tasks. The program is an excellent opportunity for students to get an interesting, real-world experience while contributing to the defense of our nation. 0018 - Safety and Occupational Health Management Series: This series covers positions that involve the management, administration, or operation of a safety and occupational health program or performance of administrative work concerned with safety and occupational health activities and includes the development, implementation, and evaluation of related program functions. The primary objective of this work is the elimination or minimization of human injury and property and productivity losses, caused by harmful contact incidents, through the design of effective management policies, programs, or practices. Safety and occupational health management work requires application of the knowledge of: (1) the principles, standards, and techniques of safety and occupational health management; and (2) pertinent elements of engineering, physical science, ergonomics, psychology, industrial hygiene, physiology, sociology, and other scientific and technological fields, that contribute to the achievement of comprehensive safety and occupational health objectives.

To Qualify for the NT-01 Level: you must be currently enrolled in a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED) program, or post-high school educational program OR have successfully completed a high school or GED diploma OR have successfully completed 1 full academic year of post-high school study OR successfully completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. To Qualify for the NT-02 level: you must have successfully completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree OR completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education. To remain eligible for this internship, you MUST continue to be enrolled in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis for the duration of the appointment. This position has Conditions of Employment (screen-outs) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Education

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and 2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education: (i) A technical or vocational school; (ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university; (iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or (iv) A home-school curriculum. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

To be eligible for conversion, Interns must: Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program

Complete their degree or certificate requirements

Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted

Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and

Perform their job successfully The Pathways appointment has promotion potential to the NT-03. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
