The Lilly Diabetes US Advisor of Advocacy and Professional Relations serves as the center of excellence for driving strategy, administration, and management of Lilly Diabetes’ corporate relationship with consumer advocacy and professional medical associations. This may also include engaging organizations in related metabolic disorders.

Responsibilities include positioning Lilly Diabetes externally as the preferred partner for delivering improved outcomes for people with diabetes, emphasizing collective mission objectives, fostering shared value for joint project work and collaborations, and promoting community cooperation to affect change. The Advisor will serve as a dual strategy and implementation role in Lilly Diabetes’ access and affordability efforts, ensuring that diabetes groups perspective is represented internally and the groups are aware of and our affordability solutions for all of our diabetes medicines.

The position will report to the senior director of corporate affairs for Lilly Diabetes. The SA will work with cross functional business colleagues including medical affairs, development, marketing, communications, regulatory affairs, government affairs, managed markets, corporate responsibility, and global health outcomes teams in support of Lilly Diabetes objectives.

Specific responsibilities include :

  • Develop strong relationships working across all levels and functions of Lilly Diabetes and Lilly enterprise to meet business objectives.

  • Drive business results in collaboration with Lilly Diabetes executive team, leading the strategy and execution of their external engagement.

  • Engage cross-functional internal partners on advocacy and professional group position, priorities, and other environmental factors for strategy development.

  • Catalyze and foster relationships between internal and external SMEs over time to drive solutions impacting the company and care of people with diabetes.

  • Advise internal teams on anticipated changes in the external environment and develop action plans to address.

  • Deliver results through others by guiding a diverse team of medical affairs professionals in their capacity as liaisons with medical, scientific, and leaders at external groups.

  • Lead local Indiana advocacy efforts with key diabetes groups that touch Lilly leadership and employees.

  • Help manage relationships with advocacy and professional organizations in the related cardio-metabolic spaces.

General responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining key external organizational and cross functional thought leader relationships across the therapeutic areas.

  • Understanding the mission and vision of each group to effectively catalyze collaboration with internal teams toward a shared goal.

  • Evaluating matrix of external inter- and intraorganizational relationships to foster cooperation and coordination to effectuate change.

  • Offering expert counsel and coaching to internal partners where community perspective and engagement are critical factors for their success.

  • Anticipating, prioritizing, and preparing to manage issues with the advocacy and professional community.

  • Managing day-to-day operational work with consultant(s) to maintain efficiency of internal processes and compliance with business rules.

  • Ensuring memberships, sponsorships and collaboration agreements are executed and commitments are fulfilled.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Care, Public Policy or other related discipline

  • Minimum 5-10 years of external relationship management experience (with not for profit groups) or experience with management of other strategic partnerships

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Well-established contacts in the diabetes community preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, as well as interpersonal.

  • Experience in executive communications and preparation.

  • Strong understanding of diabetes, diabetes complications and cardiometabolic disease states.

  • Health care professional licensure and/or degree in health sciences

  • Successful experience working with cross-functional teams, including collaboration and consensus building

  • Demonstrated influence with business partners

  • Experience in serving as a spokesperson

  • Ability to manage issues/crises; ability to handle stress

  • Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward

Additional Information

  • Position is located in Lilly Corporate Headquarters in Indianapolis, however, open to remote work arrangement

  • Domestic and some international travel required (in future) - 20%

  • Occasional weekend and holiday travel (in future) - 10%
