Goodwill Indy Assistant Controller in Indianapolis, Indiana
The Assistant Controller will play an integral role in the accounting department. Responsibilities include assisting the Corporate Controller with analyzing accounting transactions; reviewing and recording treasury general ledger postings from our treasury management software, SK Global; optimization and support of SK Global and Microsoft Dynamics D365; managing daily treasury functions such as cash flow analysis, intercompany transfers, EFT/ACH transfers, etc; recording and maintaining fixed asset and CIP records; assisting with monthly and annual lease transactions, which includes contacting landlords, reconciling property tax liabilities, and compiling the property tax returns; providing process improvement suggestions regarding financial controls; assisting the Corporate Controller with annual financial statement audit and tax filing requirements; serving as a liaison between internal stakeholders and the accounting department with respect to technical accounting matters; conducting technical accounting research on accounting matters in accordance with GAAP; and other duties as assigned. Learn relevant accounting and reporting systems, including SK Global Treasury Management Software, Microsoft Dynamics D365, Coupa, and Adaptive Insights.
Obtain cross-training in the accounting department to understand roles and provide backup support.
Improve the treasury accounting processes and reduce manual transactions by helping to optimize the SK Global Treasury Management Software.
Review and record GL postings generated by SK Global.
Prepare treasury GL postings not generated by SK Global.
Analyze cash flow and ensure GCSI has adequate working capital to meet daily cash requirements.
Prepare all electronic transfers of cash including ACH, ETFs, WIREs and intercompany transactions.
Work closely with the P2P team to ensure vendors are paid via ACH, EFT, and WIRE
Record and maintain fixed asset and CIP records.
Prepare monthly and annual retail store and equipment lease, rental, and property tax transactions.
Propose process improvements surrounding financial controls.
Assist with the annual financial statement audit and tax filing requirements.
Maintain and cultivate collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders who represent the divisions of Goodwill.
Conduct research on new technical accounting pronouncements in accordance with GAAP.
Learn the accounting processes, people, systems, and culture of Goodwill.
Ensure timely completion of bank reconciliations.
Assist operational and support departments with projects as needed.
CPA or CPA candidate with 3+ years of public or industry accounting experience
Prior experience working with an ERP system
Strong grasp of accounting and financial statement interrelationships
Demonstrated efforts in learning various software programs and technologies
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, specifically with pivot tables and VLookups
Must be detail oriented, with a strong ability to independently problem solve and prioritize tasks
Preference will be given to candidates who possess a cost-accounting background and/or a traditional non-profit accounting background.
