Black & Veatch is continuing to lead multiple projects in the Transmission industry which leverage HVDC/FACTS technology. To support this growing market, Black & Veatch is looking for a candidate within our Global Transmission business to lead this technology.
Knowledge of power electronics and their application in Dynamic Reactive Power support projects (STATCOM, SVCs and the types of shunt and series compensation configurations of implementing these devices in a Transmission System)
Understanding of HVDC converter station configurations and their application/limitation in the delivery of bulk power transmission. The candidate should have experience with the following HVDC concepts:
- Typical Back-to-Back Converter Station arrangements, Converter Station Technology (VSC and LCC), Typical Mono-pole and Bi-pole HVDC arrangements, Preliminary studies which are developed and implemented when planning deployment of HVDC systems, Detailed studies which are completed with HVDC systems
Relationships with OEMs involved in the development and deployment of HVDC/FACTS technologies
- Understanding of limitations/ratings capabilities with HVDC and FACTS projects, Forecasting with OEMs their future offerings (ampacity, voltage, MVA and reactive capability limits)
Willingness to travel and participate in industry conferences focused on HVDC and FACTS technology
- IEEE Power Engineering Society and Subcommittees focused on HVDC/FACTS, Industry conferences and expos focused on HVDC and FACTS
Leadership of a technical team versed in HVDC/FACTS. The team will be focused on the support of projects which leverage HVDC/FACTS. In this role, the following will be expected:
- Support Business Development presentations and proposals in support of technical design support of HVDC/FACTS projects, Leadership of a technical team responsible for detailed design associated with HVDC/FACTS project (Specification development for projects, Review of technical deliverables developed by OEMs), Resource planning and forecasting associated with technical support of HVDC/FACTS projects

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
