Aerotek Sourcing Engineer - Electric Utilities in Indianapolis, Indiana

A national Tier 1 utility in Indianapolis, IN is hiring a Sourcing Engineer to grow within their Distribution and Substation team. Candidates with previous T&D/Substation experience and supply chain/cost analysis experience are highly preferred. The company is ramping up with their 6+ years of Distribution and Substation projects and needs additional resources to help support a large increase in workload.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Examines data regarding cost and availability of materials and services needed to complete projects

  • Utilize data processing software to review bill of materials and design packages

  • Create Purchase Orders for specific vendors and contractors related to the products & services they provide

  • Negotiate new contracts with vendors and contractors

  • Attend bid events as a part of contractor/vendor selection process

  • Monitor industry trends and relevant economic and business factors related to public utilities

  • Serve as a “sanity check” for market prices and negotiations as they conduct this work

Job Requirements/Must Haves:

  • The most important requirement for this role is 3+ years of experience supporting Electrical Transmission and/or Substation projects. This candidate must have a working understanding of the details involved with T&D and/or Substation projects, and what makes sense for project execution.

  • This candidate must also have 3+ years of experience as a Sourcing Engineer/Analyst working directly with the sourcing and procurement team.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred, ideally in Engineering, but not required.

  • Experience is preferably within Major Projects or Capital Improvement.

  • Experience drafting/creating Purchase Orders and familiarity with SAP systems.

  • Proven communication skills interacting with business contacts and employees.

  • Proven high-level attention to details to ensure data is accurate and complete, as well as a strong ability to learn on-the-job.


  • This person will work on a long-term consulting basis for the first 2-6 years, with the potential to go direct as internal positions open.

  • Starting pay is between $30-45/hour, depending on specific T&D/Substation and sourcing experience.

  • This is a team full of sharp individuals who are self-motivated and people oriented. This position provides candidates the ability to learn and build their skill set in a booming and stable industry.

  • No per diem or relocation provided for this position. It is preferred that this candidate sits out of Indianapolis, IN, but can also report out of the Cincinnati or Columbus area. Remote candidates will be considered as long as they are able to visit the Indianapolis or Dayton office once per week.
