Lilly Sr Director – Business Insights and Analytics in Indianapolis, Indiana

As demand for a more personalized customer experience from both HCPs and patients grows, analytics will be the key enabler for omnichannel customer engagement. The BI&A team will act as the central point of authority and accountability on all data and analytics needs for the entire USBU. This team will collaborate closely with the BUs and Advanced Analytics and Data Sciences (AADS) to create and manage the analytics engine required for omnichannel customer engagement and help develop the underlying data strategy and infrastructure to support successful implementation.

The Sr Director – Business Insights and Analytics will have overall accountability for the successful delivery of analytics to brands and Bus. This position will be responsible for managing an analytics organization that will drive omnichannel engagement and promote data-driven decision making in all parts of Lilly USA and will be the primary owner of analytics transformation and capability building (e.g., analytics workbench, data democratization, HCP omnichannel). This position will report to the Vice President, Customer Operations and BI&A.

The scope of the BI&A organization will include the following:

Commercial omnichannel analytics

  • Models and governance for the omnichannel analytics engine

  • Physician journey insights, predictive analytics, salesforce analytics

  • A/B experiment design, test and control, ROI analytics

Consumer analytics

  • Consumer journey insights, ROI analytics, A/B experiment design and test and control

Business intelligence and reporting

  • Payor reporting, omnichannel execution reporting, sales reporting

  • Dashboard development and associated data processing functions in collaboration with IDS

  • Data democratization and technical training in collaboration with LSI/LMI

Strategic data

  • Data strategy and sourcing, governance, privacy, compliance

  • Data governance, list management, model publishing, and associated processes

  • Data engineering and data integration in collaboration with IDS and AADS


  • KPI definitions, strategic forecasting


Develop the BI&A strategy and vision

  • Determine overall US analytics strategic vision, mission, priorities and objectives

  • Collaborate with Sr. Director, Commercial, AADS to set and execute on a single analytics agenda for US BUs

  • Lead the innovation and application of advanced analytic capabilities across Lilly USA together with AADS

  • Champion a data driven decision making culture, and promote the application of analytics and technology to inform business decisions

  • Responsible for management of strategic projects and development and deployment of technological capabilities and analytics tools for the future

  • Provide appropriate analytics leadership and input to better enable BU decision making

Facilitate analytics execution

  • Consult across Lilly USA on analytic initiatives, establish and manage a close working relationship with BUs and IDS

  • Provide integration, communication and alignment with key functional partners (Sales, Marketing, MHS, Finance, and IT) to ensure coordinated, effective and efficient strategic and operational direction and processes.

  • Leverage organizational resources to mentor and educate brand team leads to increase analytics and data fluency

  • Continue to streamline and integrate analytics processes and capabilities from across the organization

  • Lead development and execution overall analytics portfolio by bringing the appropriate technical personnel and leadership to the table

  • Establish a close partnership with Sr. Director, Commercial, AADS for portfolio development and execution

  • Oversee the implementation of innovative proof of concepts to push the boundaries of what is possible with analytics

  • Build, update, and maintain a menu of service options based on brand tiering with input from the business in alignment with resources and enterprise priorities

  • Assists advisors in prioritizing analytics tasks and managing expectations with BUs

Build the future analytics organization

  • Establish and lead a cross-functional analytics team. Develop, retain, motivate and recruit talent to build a diverse and inclusive team

  • Develop a pipeline of analytics talent and leadership, and contribute to an inclusive community of analytics expert practitioners

  • Staff and resource key technical positions as well as flow-through business facing roles

  • Build new in-house capabilities and streamline LCCI to deliver analytics at speed and at scale

  • Accountable for codification of analytics methodologies and standardized delivery to all BUs

Data strategy and execution

  • Develop comprehensive data strategy for the US BU, and ensure appropriate governance and quality processes are in place

  • Shape the process and technology choices for the Lilly USA data management strategy, with key stakeholder input

  • Collaborate with IDS and AADS to design technologies and capabilities for the future


  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Quantitative background in engineering, statistics, mathematics, sciences, finance, technology or related disciplines

  • 10+ years of experience in an analytics or data intensive function

  • 5+ years of previous successful supervisory and leadership experience


  • MBA or other advanced degree a plus

  • Pharma industry experience is a plus

  • Broad awareness and working knowledge of descriptive analytics and advanced analytics areas such AI. ML, NLP and Predictive Analytics

  • Demonstrated team leadership, ability to engage, lead/manage a cross-functional team, and coach/develop people

  • Established analytics thought leader with demonstrated ability to think strategically and solve problems

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate advanced analytics concepts to a variety of business stakeholders with excellent communication (written & verbal), interpersonal influencing skills and prioritization skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence change with senior stakeholders at the VP level and above

  • Demonstrated familiarity with processes and technologies required to enable an industry-leading analytics organization

  • Strong analytical skills coupled with business acumen, and an ability to think strategically in an ambiguous environment

  • Strong track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver and delivering complex cross functional projects

  • Substantial analytics experience and understanding of complexities in specialty markets, analytics techniques and US pharmaceutical business

  • Experience working with common US healthcare datasets a plus

  • Proven ability to rally resources to achieve project and business results

  • High level of motivation and a strong desire to find creative solutions to challenging situations

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated ability to enforce business rules and policies in a constructive but disciplined manner


  • 10 - 20% travel depending on business need
