Aerotek Research Engineer in Warsaw, Indiana


The New Technology Development Research Engineer will provide engineering and design support to Joint Reconstruction Front End R&D. Will help in developing new concepts and material specification and conduct technology proof of concept and verification. This position works in concert with Sr. Scientists, Technical Leads from supporting departments, and other engineers to develop materials and processes in metals, ceramics, and other coatings for viable manufacturing processes, 3D Printing technologies such as Electron-Beam-Melt, Laser-Based Powder Bed Fusion.

The research engineer will be responsible to design porous and solid proof of concept test samples and prototype (stl file design), characterize macro/micro dimensions, morphometric properties (defect and porosity) using state of the art test methods and/or their modifications. This individual will coordinate with internal and external SME on biomechanical testing to characterize mechanical and morphometric properties of new concepts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

The position requires knowledge of CAD (ideal if individual has exposure to multiple CAD platforms, such as Siemens NX 12, ProE, Creo 4.0 and SolidWorks). Prior experience of additive manufacturing software for making porous structure is a plus. This individual must be able to develop test plans and write test reports for morphometrical characterization and mechanical test. Prior experience or knowledge of design software validation is a plus. General materials knowledge is required.


• BS in a Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or equivalent with 1+ years research or medical device industry experience is required

o Acceptable with Combination of work experience and Graduate Degree (MS or PhD)

• Prior experience with CAD tool(s) is required

• Prior experience with material research is required

• Developing Test Plans, Test Protocols, and Test Reports will be required

• Prior experience with medical applications is preferred

• Must be able to attain to details and strong team player
